What does being in a sorority mean to you?
Being trusted to lead inspire and advocate among like-minded, college-educated women doing the same things in their own spaces. But always knowing when called you come together in the name of sisterhood—because serving together creates an even greater impact.
What do you love about Charleston?
Simple. It’s home.
What do you do professionally?
I work in the utility industry as a Supervisor of Customer Assistance Programs, where I lead a team that connects customers and community partners through energy assistance programs and outreach.
I am also Tawana Tee, a freelance publicist who helps bring visibility to local brands, creatives, nonprofits, and businesses in food and beverage, youth services, and arts and entertainment.
How has your sisterhood helped you grow professionally and personally?
Actually, all of Delta has helped me grow—through the sisterhood, the service, and the legacy of our founders. Being a member has expanded my reach, network, and ongoing commitment to service, especially as a freelancer. It has opened doors to new clients and personal branding opportunities that I may not have experienced otherwise.
It has also supported my personal growth by helping me become a stronger mentor to youth and young adults. Being surrounded by women who demonstrate humility, tenacity, and a commitment to challenging themselves pushes me to keep doing the same continue to lead by example.
What are your go-to fashion must-haves for Lowcountry weather?
Fun Fact: I am a SneakHERhead. So, a good pair of kicks is always a must. Charleston weather can be (and is) unpredictable, so sneakers are one thing you can wear year-round. But you must choose the right style and colorway. Comfort, cute and chic is what make it go together for me..
What’s your favorite place to eat in Charleston and why?
That’s hard because I have favorite dishes from places all over Charleston. But I do have faves from some local chefs. Kym Mosley-Freeman of Party Thyme Catering’s shrimp and grits, Chef Terrell “Funny” has the best she-crab soup, and Chef Marc Green’s stuffed spinach salmon sliders can’t be touched. I love how they put their own spin on Lowcountry culture and flavors.
