What services do you provide?

Makeup for all occasions

Why did you decide to start a business?

I am very passionate about makeup artistry. I’ve always had the desire to become a M.A.C. artist. I was blessed with that opportunity and I am currently a freelance artist for the counter. After actually working there I realized my goal set for me there was to focus on sales. Being the artist that I am, I knew that my purpose was for the artistry. Therefore I began to build my clientele outside of M.A.C. and began my own business.

Before you owned a business, what did you do?

I was, and am currently still a Gross Technician at a pathology lab.

What is your favorite client story?

I had an older client who was so negative about makeup. She expressed to me how she hates it, she was afraid she would look clownish, “cakey”, and like a street walker. I explained to her that wasn’t my style of makeup and to please trust me. While I was doing her face she questioned every move I made and was giving me the meanest glare! After handing her the mirror she blurted out “Got D$#&, I look good girl, you took 20 years off me!!” The whole wedding party laughed hysterically. She began to get teary eyed and apologized and she said she never knew she could look that good. Her whole demeanor changed and she was definitely feeling herself. She hugged me so tight and gave me a nice tip!

Who are some of your business idols?

Of course Oprah. Not only because she is a billionaire but she never stops working. She’s always reinventing her brand and excelling at it! Also, I love her positivity and encouragement for everyday people.

Do you have any mentors? Who are they and how did they help you?

Alexandra Butler, a well-known makeup artist in Atlanta. A few years back I took a one on one class with her, to learn some of her techniques and tricks. Ever since that session, she has taken me under her wing and has helped me learn the in’s and out’s; the good, the bad, and the ugly of the artistry. Anytime I have a business question, product recommendation, anything she is always there to help me.

What do you love about makeup?

I love how makeup can enhance your natural beauty, and can lift your spirits instantly. I love the creativity of makeup. I love the colors, the thousands of looks you can create by slightly altering colors… I could go on and on!

What are some of your tips for managing makeup during the humid seasons in the south?

Make sure to take care of your skin before and after wearing makeup. Cleansing, toning, and moisturizing will be your best friend. This alone will help to not have to wear as much product during these seasons. Also making sure to prime your skin, find the best primer for YOUR skin type, not just because someone else wears it! Also you can set your makeup with a finishing spray.

What are some of your favorite wedding makeup looks?

All my brides are different, but my favorite look would have to be a soft eye with natural looking lashes to enhance the eyes, glowing skin, and a fitting bold lip.

What tips do you have for managing makeup on a day to day basis?

It depends on your skin type, but if you prime your skin well, it should hold up throughout the day. If you have oiler skin, you can purchase oil blotting sheets and/or keep a pressed powder and your lip color with you to touch up.

What is your favorite thing about being southern?

I love how we are more personable here in the south. Good ol’ southern hospitality! You know holding doors for people, smiling at them if you make eye contact. Little things.

What is your favorite southern entrees or sides?

I love shrimp and grits. If its on the menu, I’m definitely going to try them. I even had a shrimp and grit bar at my wedding! And of course Mac and Cheese, but it has to be extra cheesy!

What is your favorite item or piece of clothing to wear/use while doing business?

I’m always in all black. My favorite would have to be my all black business t-shirt with my logo on it. It was gifted to me as a birthday present and I love it dearly!
