Nickie Robinson, founder of the Bed-Stuy Film Festival, is scheduled to appear on New York’s PIX11 at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, October 15, to discuss the upcoming return of the annual festival, taking place October 16–18 at the Billie Holiday Theatre in Brooklyn.
Nickie Robinson to Appear on PIX11 to Discuss the Return of the Bed-Stuy Film Festival
The appearance comes just one day before the festival’s opening, offering an opportunity to highlight three days of independent cinema, industry conversations, and community engagement.
Founded by Robinson in 2017, the Bed-Stuy Film Festival celebrates filmmakers and stories representing a broad range of cultural, racial, gender, and generational perspectives. Now in its fifth year, the festival continues its mission of uplifting local creatives while welcoming independent filmmakers from around the world.
This year’s program features feature films, short films, documentaries, and discussions exploring the changing entertainment industry. Friday’s opening night begins with a screening of The NextShift, followed by a cocktail reception.
Saturday’s lineup includes the short film The Therapist and a panel discussion titled “Indie vs. Studio: The Filmmaking Dilemma.” The conversation will bring together industry professionals, including Ahmad Muhammad of Tyler Perry Studios, Sean Charles of ALLBLK/AMC, Victorious De Costa, and Nya Estep, to explore the opportunities and challenges facing filmmakers working independently and within studio systems.
On Sunday, audiences can attend a screening of Through the Night, a documentary directed and produced by Loira Limbal that examines the experiences of working-class mothers and a 24-hour childcare provider. The festival concludes with “The World of Vertical Films: What’s Next,” a discussion featuring cinematographer Robert Lee Sims III about the future of vertical storytelling and emerging filmmaking formats.
Robinson’s appearance on PIX11 will shine a spotlight on the festival’s continued commitment to diverse voices, independent filmmaking, and cultural programming in Brooklyn. By bringing filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences together, the event creates opportunities for creative exchange and conversations about the art and business of film.
