Stand on the Platform Anyway: Ty Vaughn Builds a Luxury Adventure Brand

Stand on the Platform Anyway: Ty Vaughn Builds a Luxury Adventure Brand

Some of life’s biggest moments begin with a knot in your stomach and a platform beneath your feet. In her 40s, Ty Vaughn stood on a zipline platform on Catalina Island, unsure she really wanted to go through with it. Her husband went first and reached the other side safely, and Ty gathered the courage to follow. As she soared over the island, she realized that adventure was never really about the activity itself, but about discovering a new version of herself.

Stand on the Platform Anyway

Ty Vaughn built a luxury adventure brand on one idea: fear is a waste of time, and it is never too late to begin.

Adventure was not part of Ty’s story from the beginning. Growing up in the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles, she never thought of herself as an outdoors person, and camping, hiking, and adrenaline-filled activities were simply not part of her upbringing. What she did have was a fascination with The Amazing Race, where ordinary people navigated unfamiliar places, met different cultures, and pushed beyond what they believed possible. That spark waited patiently for years, until she was finally ready to experience that world for herself.

That single zipline became the seed of something much larger. One of Ty’s earliest adventures began when she saw a post in a nanny Facebook group and agreed to go ziplining with women she had never met. Four strangers traveled together, faced the unfamiliar as a group, and returned with a shared memory and a bond that hadn’t existed before. Soon people kept showing up and experiences began selling out, and Ty recognized that countless people wanted adventure but simply needed someone to introduce them to it. In 2019, that insight became AdventuressTy, proof that one brave leap can open the door for many others.

Ty was uniquely prepared for the role of guide. She spent decades as a professional nanny before owning her agency, Rainbow Nannies, for approximately 15 years. Those years sharpened her communication, organization, problem-solving, patience, adaptability, and leadership, and they taught her what it means to be trusted. When you travel with Ty, you place your time, your expectations, your safety, and sometimes a dream you have carried for years in her hands, and she honors that responsibility fully.

The premise of AdventuressTy is that you should never have to choose between thrill and comfort. Every itinerary is designed with rhythm, blending adventure, culture, rest, connection, exceptional food, and beautiful surroundings. One day you might skydive, zipline, or ride ATVs across an unfamiliar landscape, and the next you might enjoy a spa, a memorable meal, or a leisurely evening. For Ty, luxury does not mean sitting still and adventure does not mean exhaustion, because the magic lives in the balance.

Culture is never an afterthought on an AdventuressTy journey. Ty believes you should not fly halfway around the world only to experience the inside of a resort. Her itineraries lead you toward the people, history, food, traditions, landscapes, and stories that give each destination its character. Adventure may draw you to a place, but culture is what allows you to truly connect with it.

Ty does not ask her travelers to pretend they aren’t afraid. She has stood on that platform herself and knows how loud fear can become just before you act. Courage, in her view, is not the absence of fear but standing on the platform while afraid and stepping forward anyway. That honesty is what makes her such a trusted guide for people at the edge of something new.

Because she understands fear, Ty meets nerves with kindness rather than shame. She encourages guests to breathe, listen to the professionals, understand the process, take their time, and remember why they chose to try. Confidence, she believes, is built one yes at a time. That principle reaches well beyond adrenaline, since adventure might mean skydiving for one person and applying for a passport, taking a first international trip, or finally traveling without waiting for friends for another. Whatever your version looks like, it counts.

At 51, Ty is a living challenge to the outdated idea that adventure belongs to the young. She champions the possibility that people in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond can remain curious, courageous, stylish, and open to new experiences. They can climb, jump, zip, explore, and travel the world, and look fabulous doing it. Your age is not a barrier to the life you want to live, and Ty is proof of that.

Representation is deeply personal to her as well. As a Black woman entrepreneur, Ty knows that people who look like her remain underrepresented in some adventure spaces. Rather than reading that absence as a sign she did not belong, she chose to help create the representation she wanted to see. She is especially committed to reminding mature Black women that adventure is for them, too.

Ty measures an extraordinary journey by what her travelers carry home. Beyond souvenirs, she wants them to return with courage, confidence, clarity, new friendships, and a deeper appreciation for the world and for their own lives. Success, to her, sounds like a traveler saying, “I finally did it,” “I didn’t know I was capable of that,” or “I came home different.” Those moments matter far more to her than revenue or growth.

Community makes those breakthroughs even sweeter. AdventuressTy creates space for travelers to laugh, face fears, encourage one another, celebrate victories, and form friendships that extend well beyond the trip. Every guest leaves with one question echoing in their mind: If I could do that, what else am I capable of? It is a question that keeps working long after the luggage is unpacked.

Maybe you have been waiting for the right time, the right friends, or the right version of yourself. Maybe you believe you are too old, too inexperienced with international travel, or too nervous to go alone. Ty has heard every version of that story, and she has seen what waits on the other side of it.

You will not be doing this alone. You will be surrounded by fellow travelers who laugh, cheer, and encourage you at the edge, and guided by someone who has felt every flutter of fear you feel. Some of the most exciting chapters of your life may still be ahead, and you do not need to be fearless to begin, only willing to say yes.

Join the next AdventuressTy journey. Your platform is waiting, and the view from the other side is worth it. Come home breathing differently, seeing yourself differently, and coming home different.
