How did you meet?
Two of our friends introduced us. Those two are married to each other now too.
How long have you dated?
We have been together since July 2008 so 7 years
How did he propose?
It was during our vacation in Jamaica. On our last night in Negril, Jamaica, during dinner, he gave me a ring made out of straw and claimed he was putting me on layaway since he couldn’t afford a ring yet. We went back to the room took a nap and we woke up in the middle of the night – I was still wearing the straw ring. When we awoke, he took me out to the beach under the moonlight. We laughed, talked and he took the straw ring and claimed he was going to fix it up. When I turned back around he was on his knee proposing – with the real ring ;).
When did you know he was the one?
I knew he was the one – one month after we started dating. When I saw how dedicated and serious he was to fulfilling his dream of becoming a doctor of Physical Therapy I knew that he was someone I could grow old with. His intense focus on his studies and dedication to excellence was an extreme turn-on.
What is the cutest thing he has done for you without you asking?
On my 24th birthday he threw me a surprise birthday party at my own apartment. I had no clue. All of my closest friends were there and they all kept telling me how Jamar had been trying to pull everything together while keeping it a secret. This was the first surprise party anyone ever did for me.
What is something you love about him that has completely changed your life?
I love how open he is in expressing himself and being willing to communicate. It has allowed me to feel comfortable sharing absolutely anything with him without the fear of judgment or resistance.
What part of wedding planning is making you crazy?
People not reading the wedding website and asking obvious questions. (All brides can relate to this!)
What part of wedding planning can you not live without?
Our decorator Dexter Fields. He has made this process extremely easy, he understands our style and we simply love his work!
What was your first thought the day after your engagement? OMG – we’re engaged!!
We are soooo happy for Jeanette and Jamar and wish them nothing but happiness and love as they embark on their journey of marriage.
