#BellesonaBudget: How to Make a Bag Out of Wrapping Paper for the Holiday Season

#BellesonaBudget: How to Make a Bag Out of Wrapping Paper for the Holiday Season

Christmas is right around the corner, and it’s time to get those DIY projects going! Interested in learning how to make a bag out of wrapping paper? Keep reading.

While gift-giving is fun, tirelessly searching for the right bags to put them in can grow exhausting and even expensive, especially if you’re buying for many people. Add in having to package toys for the kiddos and you might hit a nerve or break the bank. Although some items may require boxes, there’s nothing like saving coins and implementing this creative activity for the holiday season.

No more rummaging through your local department store’s gift supplies section (at the last minute) when you could avoid the hassle and make your own crafty concoctions. Get some hot chocolate brewing on the stove, whip out the snack trays, and invite friends over for an (even more) eventful time.

Just remember not to put their presents in the wrapping pile! You wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise.

#BudgetingBelles101: How to Make a Bag Out of Wrapping Paper

First, let’s start by compiling a checklist to ensure that you have everything you’ll need before we move forward with this innovative hack.

  • Wrapping paper
  • Scissors
  • Scotch tape
  • Hole puncher
  • Name tags
  • Ribbon (or yarn)
  • Ornaments (if you’re feeling fancy)
  • Stapler (for extra security)

Step 1: Take Measurements

On a flat surface, place the object on top of the rolled-out wrapping paper to measure its width for a ballpark of where to cut. It’s recommended that your gift wrap is (at least) four times as wide as the gadget and four inches taller on the top and the bottom.

Step 2: Let’s Get to Folding

After measuring and cutting, remove the object from the wrapping paper. Fold each side of the paper, meeting the flaps in the center. Place a piece of tape (vertically) on the edge of one of the flaps and bring it slightly over the next one. Now, seal it shut.

Step 3: Time to Fold Again

Fold the bottom of the now-taped wrapping paper upward to create a crease. Don’t tape yet! Next, take your hand and reach into the opening at the bottom. Form it into a diamond shape by spreading your hand out while inside and pressing down on each left and right flap until they resemble triangles. Once flattened, fold the top and bottom corners toward each other and tape the seams.

Step 4: Fill It Up & Finish

Flip the bag upright and toss your items inside. Once everything is nice and neat, fold the top of the bag, and use your hole puncher to insert one hole on toward the left and one hole toward the right. Be sure that both holes are aligned more so toward the center. Now, you’re ready to tie a ribbon (or yarn) through the holes and customize. Adding ornaments on the strings is an optional but cute trick for a little razzle dazzle.
