Howard has shaped some of the most influential figures in modern history, from politics to entertainment. These individuals don’t just represent their fields; they embody the spirit of excellence that Howard instills in its students.

Here are seven notable Howard grads you should know.

Kamala Harris

First on the list of “Howard grads you should know” is the woman who broke barriers by becoming the first Black woman Vice President of the United States. Kamala Harris, a 1986 graduate of Howard University, has a history of making history. Before taking the oath of office as Vice President, Harris served as a U.S. Senator for California and the state’s Attorney General. Her time at Howard, where she studied political science and economics, laid the foundation for a career dedicated to public service and justice.

Ananda Lewis

Ananda Lewis, a familiar face for anyone who watched BET and MTV in the late ’90s and early 2000s, is another Howard grad you should know. After graduating from Howard in 1995, she quickly became one of the most prominent TV personalities of her time. Lewis used her platform to amplify important conversations around social justice, health, and youth issues. Her charisma and intelligence have made her a lasting figure in the media.

Toni Morrison

Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison is another notable Howard grad you should know.
