5 Ways to Experience Southern Charm in DC at Fairmont Washington

5 Ways to Experience Southern Charm in DC at Fairmont Washington

Washington, DC has a special place for me. I went to college there (Go Howard University), found my husband there and bought my first house in the DMV.

I must admit that when I first moved to DC as a southern belle it was hard for me to adjust but slowly I found my version of Black Southern Belle living in Washington, DC.

DC is a perfect place for a modern, career driven southern woman and I found the perfect hotel for her to take a break from her busy life while never leaving the city and that hotel is the Fairmont Washington. From the moment you step foot in the newly renovated iconic hotel, you feel so much modern southern hospitality.

1) A Grand Entrance: We Southerners love everything bigger and the entrance of the Fairmont has all drama a big southern personality would want. Not to mention it is a great place to take an Instagram photo and the valet was so helpful.

2) Host a Party: Whether it is your sorority chapter luncheon, wedding or HBCU fundraiser, this hotel has the perfect space to host a party. From the outdoor gardens to the indoor ballrooms, this place is perfect for the traditional to the modern belle. I think a garden party for my DC ladies is definitely on my list in the near future!

3) Taste the Southern Food: I attended a wonderful luncheon at the Fairmont Washington and also ate the in house restaurant, Juniper Restaurant, in addition to the Gold Lounge food and was floored at how great the food was. I am not usually a fan of hotel food, but the Fairmont exceeded my expectations. If you get a chance to stay or just stop by for dinner, please try the crab cakes, you won’t regret it.

4) Join Fairmont Gold  for True Hospitality: I am all about being a great southern hostess and for the truest experience of southern charm, make the choice and upgrade to the Fairmont Gold Experience. From a private floor with 24 hour concierge, to non stop complimentary gourmet foods (breakfast, snacks, drinks, cocktail hour and so much more) and a private lounge for you to get a perfect view of the city and meet other hotel guests, you won’t regret it.

5)Enjoy the Southern Modern Decor: DC is definitely a southern town when it comes to decor and the Fairmont Washington is a great place to get some design and decor inspiration for a modern southern belle. Check out a few of my favorite design inspired images from the hotel below:
