Tips on Preparing for a Sisterhood Shoot

Tips on Preparing for a Sisterhood Shoot

Looking for ways to bond with your ladies this summer? Why not try a sisterhood shoot.  Weddings, baby showers, and almost all celebrations would not be possible without the help of our friends so why not celebrate them the same way.  With help from Chanel Jaali, we have Tips on Preparing for a Sisterhood Shoot to get you started with your planning.

Chanel is the creator of Glow Photo Series, a traveling photo project aimed to highlight the beauty of Black and Brown women. According to Ms. Jaali,

I ask women of all hair textures, body types, abilities, and complexions to pose in a predetermined color in an attempt to shift the perspective of what the standard of beauty should be. I wanted to create something I wasn’t seeing while scrolling through social media. Everyone deserves to be represented and everyone deserves to know that they are beautiful. So far, the project has been to DC, MD, Atlanta, Harlem, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Raleigh/Durham. International sessions will being in this year. Each session starts out with a “sister circle” where we connect and talk about what brings us joy. Women are able to relate and network, often resulting in new business opportunities and friendships. The positive feedback that I have received from participants and viewers has kept the motivation going!

Today we are honored to showcase images from her Glow Photo Series. Be sure to share your sisterhood images on social media with the hashtag #blacksouthernbelle

– Choose a theme/vibe/mood. Being on the same page will show in the finished product!
– If possible, select a location where you can utilize a variety of backgrounds. This can offer a variety of looks for your photos.
– Live in the moment and have fun! We often live our lives for social media, but these shoots can be a bonding and reconnecting experience for the participants.
