NEW ORLEANS — Now on view at Ogden Museum of Southern Art is the annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Art Showcase, presented in collaboration with the New Orleans (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. This year’s exhibition consists of 34 works, showcasing work by 23 student artists attending Dillard University and Xavier University of Louisiana. The exhibition will be on view at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art through mid-October.
The 2019 artists are Kennedi Andrus, Mariia Borodii, Elexie Bryant, Nurye Carter, Tyler Comeaux, Derek Dixon, Quinsi Dominguez, Taylor Fields, Barriane Franks, Amani Gaddy, Esaba Hebert, Darien Henderson, Lindsey Hines, Michah Holness, Patricia Pham, Asia Rachal, Jermaine Robinson, Myron Solomon, Kotey Thomas, Gabrielle Tolliver, Keonna Tucker, Makeda Wells and Cammy White.
“We are so excited to partner with the New Orleans (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated again this year to present the HBCU Art Showcase,” says Ellen Balkin, Ogden Museum Director of Education. “I am continually impressed by the talented work of these students and the Ogden Museum is proud to host this exhibition each year.”
The 2019 HBCU Art Showcase marks the sixth year of collaboration between the Ogden Museum and the New Orleans (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. The showcase is held annually in the Museum’s Education Gallery, a designated space, which highlights and exhibits student artwork. Historically Black Colleges and Universities have been an integral part in the work towards racial equity. The Ogden Museum’s annual HBCU Art Showcase and The Links, Incorporated partnership continues to support this goal.
The HBCU Art Showcase will open to the public on Saturday, August 3 during Hancock Whitney White Linen Night. Admission to the Museum will be free on this evening.

The Ogden Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. with extended hours on Thursdays from 6 – 8 p.m. for Ogden After Hours. Admission is free to Museum Members and $13.50 for adults, $11 for seniors 65 and older, $6.75 for children ages 5-17 and free for children under 5.

The Museum is closed Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Since it was chartered on November 20, 1957, the New Orleans (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was engaged in implementing program services through the five National Program Facets: Services to Youth; International Trends and Services; National Trends and Services; Health and Human Services; and the Arts. The chapter’s major initiatives include co-sponsoring the local competition for the Scripps National Spelling Bee and Law Day, in which students are trained in legal proceedings and participate in a mock trial. The main focus areas are: education and youth activities to assist youth in fulfilling their intellectual potential; addressing issues affecting the African-American community through health and wellness projects; fostering cultural appreciation through the arts; and collaborating with other Link chapters to provide services and assistance to global friends.
