An evening ballroom wedding will require cocktail attire at minimum. If black tie is specified, a formal floor length gown is most appropriate.

Yes, you can wear black, but remember that your wardrobe should reflect that this is a celebratory event. I would not recommend black for afternoon weddings. Choose black dresses with feminine details such as flounces or ruffles. Black dresses constructed with lace are also a fabulous and appropriate option.

Leave the large totes and casual handbags at home. Opt for a clutch or small top handle bag.
