Looking to add add some restauants to your foodie travels? Look no further than Charlotte, NC’s Leah & Louise. I grew up on listening to “Brown liquor music” and have always wanting to experience a modern juke joint. If you feel the same, , the latest concept from James Beard-nominated Chef Greg Collier and business partner/wife Subrina Collier should be on your must visit list. The menu features modern interpretations of Southern classics that honor Mississippi river valley foodways (Memphis, Jackson, Mississippi and New Orleans).

As a lover of classic southern decor, this restaurant definitely delivers. From beautiful cafe chairs paired with vintage and antique pieces accented by eclectic lighting, Leah & Louise pays the perfect design homage to Juke Joint style and architecture.

The exposed brick and high ceilings paired with fringe-lined seating, remind me of the pieces of furniture in my grandmother’s home and match perfectly with the restaurant theme.

Michiel is a Black Southern Belle living a lowcountry life. I love all things fashion, home decor and southern! When I am not running around doing fun stuff for Black Southern Belle, I live in antique stores and have a minor obsession with historic homes 🙂

I’m an 77 yr. old Ozark hillbilly and really like your website! About 10-15 years ago my wife and I went to the balloon race at Natchez. Near there I saw what looked to me like a “juke joint” and being a socialogy and and American History teacher, I wanted to go in and experience one. However, being caucasion, I didn’t think I’d be welcomed, and have regretted it ever since. Your recent article on them is much appreciated.
