Lowcountry Family Activities: Family Day Exploring Nexton

Lowcountry Family Activities: Family Day Exploring Nexton

When my family and I are traveling around the South, it’s essential to find destinations that are family-friendly, easy to navigate, and places our children will enjoy. In my hometown of Summerville, South Carolina, is the award-winning community of Nexton. We had such a great time visiting the first time we decided to return for a fun, family day to explore and enjoy the beautiful Lowcountry weather.

Lowcountry Family Activities: Family Day Exploring Nexton

Nexton is a Lowcountry community with four distinct neighborhoods; Midtown, Brighton Park Village, Del Webb Nexton, and North Creek with a public school, restaurants, grocery stores, office spaces, parks, and shopping. Last time we explored their newest neighborhood Midtown. On our recent trip, we went to the walkable Nexton Square before playing at Encore Park.

We have a toddler and a baby, so we have to find family-friendly areas safe for wandering toddlers and easily accessible for strollers with wide sidewalks and plenty of sitting areas for breaks. Nexton Square had various park benches to sit and eat outdoors.

Nexton Square offers a variety of Lowcountry favorite restaurants and shopping options, including some great kid-friendly locales. Local restaurants include Poogan’s Southern Kitchen, Hall’s Chophouse, Taco Boy, Chatime Ice Cream Shop, and Vicious Biscuit for snacks – plus many more. We stopped for lunch at Tropical Smoothie Cafe for sandwiches and smoothies. Our kids loved sharing a taste of each smoothie and managed to sneak in a few cookies as well.

Jackson’s favorite stops were Tweedle Beedle and Simple to Sublime with their artisanal toys, wooden animals, books, and cars. Jackson loves anything with wheels so of course we walked out the door with a new car. My husband and I love art so we are starting early on their appreciation for art so we walked through Art on the Square to explore the vibrant artwork.

Encore Park in the Brighton Park Village features five acres of lawn, trails, and a playground area. Lowcountry life is all about enjoying nature; the beautiful weather, greenery, and fresh air. Nexton has so many scenic views that are easy to explore. Our oldest, Jackson, had the most fun, he loves parks so when he doesn’t want to leave (And he didn’t) we know it’s a winner.

We had a great family-friendly day at Nexton, and the kids had a lot of fun. If they don’t want to leave, we know we’ve found the perfect destination. If you are looking for a fun and stress-free destination, look no further than Nexton, with plenty of activities for the entire family with great local restaurants, shops, and outdoor spaces. And an easy kid-friendly tip for your next family-friendly exploration is a picnic basket.  When traveling, pack a picnic basket with favorite toys, books, and snacks to entertain the kids. It’s an entertaining kid-style picnic that’s easy to pack and carry.
