Andre Leon Talley once said: ”
“Fashion is not always about clothes; it’s about the people in fashion, and I love them.”

I have always loved clothes. My mother and my grandmother loved clothes. They loved shoes, jewelry, etc., and I inherited that love of clothes and fashion. My mom used to sew, so at an early age, I was introduced to textiles, and everything related to what was put into making or purchasing ” a good piece of clothing”. As a child I would have an abundance of clothing due to my mother making them, receiving hand me downs from my cousin, and from shopping.  Minimalism is not in my DNA, lol.

Ive always loved preppy clothing and I dont lean into trends. I wear what I want to wear, even if it’s not considered ” on trend”.  I was a smocked clothing, christening gown, velvet Christmas dresses, baby. So of course I love Southern clothing, lol. I absolutely love the clothing attire that Black individuals wore from the 1940’s and 1950’s. My two favorite eras of clothing.  The people of that time took pride in dressing.

I don’t really plan my outfits ahead of time, I go in the room and put something on. I believe that basic outfits just need a little flair, so I frequent antique stores, thrift stores, and consignment shops for brooches, vintage scarves and other things to make my outfit pop!! I’ll literally shop anywhere, and if I like it, Ill buy it!!

I am no fashion expert, just a girl who loves clothes. My advice to anyone that wants to source pieces is to make a list of what you want to buy or find a look that you want to achieve. Get inspo from Pinterest, fashion magazines, etc and add your own twist. Be open to shopping anywhere. Trust your gut when you find something that you like, buy it then, because it may not be there when you go back. Be yourself, love yourself, and try not to ever dress like what you’re going through!!
