No matter the situation, Black women have historically taken a little and made it a lot, especially when it comes to food. It’s in our DNAs as generation after generation has demonstrated great resilience in the kitchen.
Over on Instagram, there is a wonderful group of users, who are home cooks and moms. After going through dozens, the following women were selected because they make easy recipes that look tasty as well as pass the healthy-ish and budget tests. As easy as it is for children to adapt to financial stresses, it can be harder for them to adapt to a change in food options. The way one mom put it, “Crisis is not a time to experiment. It’s a time to innovate.” We agree. Use these recipes as inspiration and ways of using the same ingredients in your pantry and fridge in a different way.
Meet seven Black moms (and one dad) on Instagram with some great recipes that are sure to win at meal time. (You’ll have to follow the link to the recipe to get it.)
