HBCUs with Waterfront Views for a Picnic

HBCUs are special in their own kind of way. Many of them have similar programs of study  and programs, but the individuality of these institutions are determined through the students and the scenery of each. Attending a HBCU comes with many benefits. From gaining life long friends to learning new skills, yet another rewarding experience is appreciating and enjoying  the natural beauty of your HBCU.

So here we have listed a few HBCUs with amazing waterfront views and also will provide you with some tips on ways you can host a picnic on your HBCU campus. 

Savannah State University

Right here in our Lowcountry backyard lies Savannah State University. Located in Savannah, Georgia, one can expect this institution to have water close by. Just inches away from Wilmington River, Country Club Creek, & Herb River, Savannah State University is the HBCU with many waterfront views to choose from. Unsure where to enjoy a picnic with your friends? Try a new location every weekend and return to your most favorite waterfront view. 

Florida Memorial University 

I’m pretty sure that when you think about Florida, waterfront views are first to come to mind. If it isn’t then HBCUs are ideal to think about for the state of Florida.  Florida Memorial University is a perfect combination of the two scenarios water views and HBCUs. At the front of the institution lies a body of water that is inviting new students, their families, and even rival institutions and also a great place to take those entry and graduation pictures. 

Bethune-Cookman University 

Another HBCU in the Southern water known state, Florida, with waterfront views is Bethune-Cookman University. Located near Dewitt C. Lefevre Residence Hall on Bethune’s campus, is a small body of water that is secluded with trees and small bushes which completes the relaxing experience. With approximately 4 more bodies of water, large and small, on Bethun’s-Cookman University campus, students, visitors, and families can relax with one another while being uninterrupted.

Fort Valley State University 

Founded in 1895, Fort Valley State University is a public HBCU in Fort Valley, Georgia that is surrounded by mostly natural scenery. Along State University Drive, many passerbyers and students can get a view of the whole campus, however with a quick glance, many would miss the small body of water located near carver drive. This peaceful gem is one location that students at FVS enjoy and can be found frequently nearby.

How to Host a Picnic on Campus

These 5  institutions and many more have a place where students can relax and enjoy the cool breeze from their waterfront or waterside views. Since many HBCUs have a scenery that is perfect for picnics with friends, we  have provided tips and ways you can host a picnic on your campus. 

Step 1: Pick the Right Spot

Find a place that is shaded yet warm for those summer days and find a place where you can enjoy a relaxing view. 

Step 2: Bring Along a Stylish Blanket

Blankets give picnics their own aesthetic! Be strategic and set up the blanket of your choice to bring your picnic theme together. 

Step 3: Find Creating Ways to Store Food

Mason jars and sweet grass baskets are just a few items that you will need to make taking your food to and from your dorm to the outdoors much easier. 

These are just simple steps that you can take to host your picnic. Remember to create a picnic that you know others will enjoy and use the natural scenery that is provided to you as a great background for your vision.
