Cabernet Christmas Tour with Candidly Deena

Cabernet Christmas Tour with Candidly Deena

Welcome to our Holidays with Heritage tour, where we kick off the season with a look at Deena Knight’s stunningly bold and full-bodied “Cabernet Christmas.” This year’s theme is a masterclass in deep, moody color and intentional design, proving that sometimes, less is more.

The inspiration for this year’s design struck early and came from an unexpected place. As Deena shares: “A friend sent me a reel back in October that showed these deep burgundy holiday decorations, and I immediately knew it was the direction for me.” This deep moody red, a color she’s “been loving for a while,” is a departure from her usual palette, yet it feels perfectly on-trend.

The “Cabernet Christmas” is defined by rich textures and a harmonious color scheme. “Presenting C A B E R N E T Christmas! Bold and full bodied,” Deena exclaims. “She’s got florals, velvet ornaments, berries and just a hint of chocolate (carried over from last year.)”

When it came to wrapping, she embraced the theme fully, noting the shift from her typical variety: “For Cabernet Christmas I used this matte finish paper in burgundy with a burgundy satin ribbon… But this year, because I was ordering online as opposed to in-person shopping a former favorite… I pared it back. We’ll see if that changes. There’s still time!”

The initial burgundy base was later complemented with a deeper tone to achieve the perfect depth. “After I got all the burgundy on, I felt like it needed something. So that’s when I added a little of the brown.” This layering created a signature look that, unbeknownst to Deena, perfectly aligned with the season’s forecast. “What I didn’t realize when I chose this color was just how much burgundy, ox blood, merlot was going to be trending this Christmas. But alas it is! I’ve seen several takes on this.”

Remarkably, Deena’s tree has a playful history of forecasting color trends. She observes: “Funny thing is for the last three years my tree has coincidentally predicted the Pantone #coloroftheyear. Viva Magenta (Pink Christmas), Peach Fuzz (Coral Christmas), Mocha Mousse (Cocoa Christmas.” This year, with the various shades of deep red and brown, she’s once again ahead of the curve, delivering a holiday feature that is truly memorable.
