From Advocacy to Action: The Rise of the Heritage Salon Legacy Giving Circle

For nearly two decades, Heritage Salon has served as a vital voice for the preservation of Black history, evolving from a digital blog into a national platform for cultural advocacy. However, on August 3, 2026, the Greensboro-based nonprofit marked a definitive shift in its mission. With the launch of the Heritage Salon Legacy Giving Circle (HSLGC), the organization is moving beyond storytelling and into the realm of direct, intentional action.

From Advocacy to Action: The Rise of the Heritage Salon Legacy Giving Circle

This new philanthropic collective is not merely a modern fund; it is a profound tribute to the historical legacy of Black club women. Figures such as Maggie L. Walker, Madam C. J. Walker, and the strategic organizers of Bethune Circle #1 in Jacksonville, Florida, established a blueprint for community self-reliance. Heritage Salon founder Jada Wright‑Greene, alongside founding members Dr. Ashley Preston and Dr. Tara White, draws directly from this wellspring of strategic generosity. By honoring these foremothers, the Giving Circle connects today’s donors to a lineage of women who recognized that collective resources are the most effective tools for community transformation.

At the heart of the HSLGC is a commitment to trust-based philanthropy, an approach that centers respect and partnership over traditional, often restrictive, grantmaking hurdles. By prioritizing small to mid-sized Black museums and historic sites—specifically those operating on lean budgets under $250,000—the Giving Circle ensures that the stewards of our most precious cultural assets receive the investment they deserve. This is a model designed for long-term vitality, ensuring that the homes and institutions where Black history lives remain vibrant for generations.

The operational structure of the HSLGC reflects its inclusive and transparent ethos. Managed through the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, the initiative invites members to contribute a minimum of $400 annually, pooling resources to create a significant, scalable impact. As Heritage Salon enters this new chapter, it invites a new generation of philanthropists—both men and women—to join a collective that treats the preservation of Black heritage not just as a responsibility, but as a shared joy and a necessary investment in our collective future.
