Baby Decor: Classic Southern Style in Atlanta, GA Nursery Room Tour
This beautifully designed nursery and its attached bathroom were brought to life by the creative hands of Justin and Christina Tanner. We were fortunate enough to speak with the mom-to-be and gain some insight into what inspired her to create this classic nursery space within their Metro Atlanta home.

Tanner tells us, “I wanted to create a fun space with a little more color than the rest of the house (I do love my neutrals), and of course I turned to Pinterest for some beautiful inspo. In particular, I was inspired by a gorgeous nursery designed by Ariel Okin, complete with grasscloth covered walls and safari animals of varying sizes and materials, and another nursery designed by Sophie Patterson that really leaned into the safari theme, but in the most elevated and sophisticated way. Borrowing elements from multiple spaces I loved resulted in a cohesive design that I am so happy with!”

Family Heirlooms: When designing the nursery, Mrs. Tanner used a number of family Heirlooms and we can’t get enough of how she incorporates them. She tells us, “The animal heads are from our nephew Hadley’s former nursery. He’s 10 now so graciously allowed us to “borrow” them for his future baby cousin’s room. And my sister brought us so many special books from our nephews’ collection by black authors and featuring black characters – the shelves are filled with them so Baby Tanner will see faces that look like his from the moment we start reading to him.”

Southern Smocks: The smocked baby boy romper framed on the wall was the one my parents bought for me to wear home from the hospital because they were convinced I was a boy! My grandmother wouldn’t actually let me wear it home from the hospital, but my parents kept it all these years. They had 2 girls but now the cute little outfit holds pride of place in their third grandson’s nursery.

Bathroom Style: A great addition to any nursery is an attached bathroom. This nursery has just that and was lovingly renovated and design by the Tanners. Mrs. Tanner gives us insight on this process and says “Finally, I’ll admit, the bathroom was a case of mission creep. I couldn’t bear the thought of designing this beautiful new nursery without giving a little tlc to the dated en suite. We kept the old tub and shower tile, but replaced everything else: new flooring, vanity, toilet, mirror, and lighting. I also took the opportunity to try my hand at mixing metals, which I was too scared to do in other parts of the house. I’m loving the contrast of the polished nickel shower and sink fixtures, with the brushed brass hardware on the vanity, towel bar, etc. I’m happy with how it turned out!“

Labor of Love: Christina is a true design lover and her this project was an absolute labor of love. She explains , “I love home decor and creating spaces that truly change how you feel and how you experience a moment. That’s the whole reason behind my @youcanfindmeathome instagram account – when not working my day job (which I also love), you can literally always find me at home working on a home decor project! “
