5 Black-Owned Products for a College Care Package and How to Organize a Care Basket with Style

5 Black-Owned Products for a College Care Package and How to Organize a Care Basket with Style

Sisters, brothers, granddaughters, grandsons, daughters, and sons are soon to be awaiting their college care packages. Filled with an array of goodies, necessary essential items, candles, drinks, and books; these care packages are what is needed to get a college student to continue their upward journey through college. Care packages are more about ensuring the student is aware that their hard work isn’t going unnoticed. Providing care packages is highly recommended to keep our college students stocked with items they love and need.

Sending care packages is easy. However, packing and organizing them with style is where the difficulty comes into play. So, below are a few tips and ways to pack up your care packages for this semester.

How to Organize a Care Basket with Style

Tip 1: Create a List

Generate an ideal list of items that will be included in the box. The amount of items you have will determine your box size, packing style, and will ensure you don’t miss any items.

Tip 2: Pack Smart

In order for your delivery man or woman to get your care packages there safely, it is important to pack smart. Ensure big items like laundry detergent or drinks are at the bottom of the box and include bubble wrap or packing paper to lessen the stress of items laying on top of one another. Put candles near the middle, wrap them tightly and place smaller non-delicate items near the top.

Tip 3: Show Your School Spirit

Try decorating the box with the school colors or create the theme of the box in their favorite colors. If their HBCU colors are blue and white like my alma mater, Voorhees College, add blue ribbon to the outside of the box, include white tissue paper, blue sparkles, and blue and white color items inside the box. Care packages like these ones will remind the student exactly why they are attending their specific HBCU.

Now that you understand how to organize your basket, we have provided 5 black-owned businesses that you should include in your HBCU college care package.

5 Black-Owned Products for a College Care Package

TRUE

Laundry detergent is a necessary item for students. Since most times washers and dryers are free, college students will definitely need plenty of laundry cleaning items. True Laundry Detergent, a black-owned brand, has proven that the amount of suds does not equal the degree of cleaning power. True is free of color, free of perfumes and fragrances, is not tested on animals, removes dirt and is one of the most effective laundry detergents available on the market. True Detergent is the most accurate item to add to the bottom of all care packages for an HBCU college student.

PUR Home

PUR Home offers an entire Back 2 School College Box that is ideal for a care package during the middle or the beginning of next semester. This box specifically includes more free and clear laundry detergent, disinfectant spray, rosemary citrus multi surface cleaner, and lavender hand sanitizer. All of these cleaning items are what students use on a weekly basis and may even share with others. So why wouldn’t we stock them back up on their necessities by this black-owned brand?

BUTTAZ & WAX

Lotion and soap are two items that students run out of quickly. Since this is a frequent item that is used it’s only right that their care package includes items from Buttaz & Wax. Keisha Marie, founder of Buttaz & Wax, is creating body butter in scents rangining from lemongrass, coco loco, and vanilla dream and features turmeric, charcoal, and tangerine and tea tree soap. Items by this brand smells great and will for sure have your care package smelling delicious even before opening.

Shantea Thyme

Tea or coffee, college students need something energy motivating to sip on and tea is a perfect item to fill into their care packages. Shantea Thyme, created by Lashanta Fraser in 2017, has a wide range of flavors for any student who enjoys tea. Whether they appreciate cinnamon flavor teas or different herbal teas; with this item in their care package college students will be able to drink tea every morning to start their day off right.

Sweet Success Bakery

At the top of the care package goodies should overflow and Sweet Success Bakery has enough sweet treats to include in your package. From candied strawberries and cookies and cream cookies, to ooey gooey brownies and loaded cake jars, Sweet Success Bakery, based in South Carolina, can ship to you in order to include in your care package. Don’t get too anxious to try them  because the smell of these treats will make you want to open and try one, maybe two.

We hope that this guide has given you the necessary ideas and suggestions needed to shop black-owned while supporting those college students who are living in their dorms. Unsure of what more items to add, check out more stories from Black Southern Belle featuring our black-owned businesses.
