In a night filled with inspiration and celebration, the design community came together for the Celebration of Black Design, an event hosted by Currey & Company and Loloi Rugs to commemorate Black History Month. The evening was a tribute to the remarkable contributions of Black professionals in the design industry, spotlighting three exceptional honorees: MacKenzie Johnson, Dorothy McGhee, and Ian Thornton.
MacKenzie Johnson, the Senior Marketing Manager at ADAC, was one of the evening’s stars. Known for her innovative approach and unwavering dedication, MacKenzie has been a driving force in the design industry. Her strategic vision and commitment to elevating Black voices in design have positioned her as a leader and role model. Her recognition at the event is a testament to her significant impact and influence.

Another illustrious honoree was Dorothy McGhee of McGhee Studios. Dorothy has carved out a distinguished career, known for her unique ability to blend traditional and contemporary design elements seamlessly. Her studio has become a beacon of creativity and excellence, reflecting her passion for design and her commitment to mentorship within the community. Dorothy’s work continues to inspire both peers and aspiring designers alike.
Ian Thornton of Currey & Company was also celebrated for his substantial contributions to the design world. With a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of the market, Ian has played a pivotal role in shaping the brand’s identity and outreach. His efforts have not only propelled Currey & Company to new heights but have also championed diversity and inclusion within the industry.
